about; svá nökkuru mun yðvar leita farit lengi, about so long will they seek you; nökkuru fyrir dag, a while before day-light; (3) some, a certain; maðr n., a certain man; um dag nökkurn, a certain day; nökkura hríð, nökkurt (nakkvart) skeið, for some time; (4) the plur. added to a numeral, about, some (nökkur sex skip eða sjau; nökkurum tveim sinnum eða þrim).
nökkut, adv. (1) somewhat, in some degree, rather (þó at hann þœtti n. blandinn); henni var skapþungt n. (nakkvat), she was rather depressed in spirit; nú hefi ek n. hugsat málit, now I have thought over the matter somewhat; (2) at all, to any extent (vill þú n. sonu þína við láta vera?).
nökkva-maðr, m. a man who rows a 'nökkvi'.
nökkverr, pron. = nökkurr.
nökkvi, m. boat, skip (hafð þá Hymir út skotit nökkvanum).
nökkvi, some, old neut. dat. from 'nökkurr' = nökkuru; esp. somewhat (n. lengra, n. síðarr).
nøktr, nøkviðr (acc. nøktan, nøkþan), a. naked.
nös (gen. nasar, pl. nasar and nasir), f. nostril, esp. pl. nostrils, nose; bregða e-u fyrir nasar e-m, to put it before one's nose; draga nasir at e-u, to snuff, smell at a thing; stinga nösum niðr, to fall upon one's face, bite the dust; lúka nösum, to shut the nostrils, die.
