ba, n. bath esp. steam or vapour-bath (fara or ganga til bas, koma r bai, ganga fr bai; taka ba).
baast (a), v. refl., to take a bath, to bathe.
ba-fer, f. going to the bath (vera -fer) ; um -ferir, about the time for bathing;
kpa, f. bathing-cloak;
-kona, f. female bathing attendant.
bamr, m. (1) tree; (2) bosom.
ba-stofa, f. bath-room, bathingroom ; in later times, sittingroom.
bastofu-gluggr, m. opening (window) in the roof of a bastofa.
bagall, m. a bishop's staff, crozier.
bagal-stafr, m.= bagall.
baggi, m. pack, bundle.
baglar, a. crooked, deformed.
bak, n. (1) back (binda bagga b. sr); fig., bera sk baki, to be guilty; leggja bleyior b. e-m, to charge one with being a coward; hafa marga vetr baki, to be advanced in years; sna baki vi to turn the back, flee; ganga b. heitum, orbum, to go back on one's word; (2) = hestbak; fara b., to mount ; fara, stga, spretta af baki, to dismount; (3) the backside of a thing (cf. handarbak, hurarbak, hsbak); baki hsunum at the back of the houses; gra e-t baki e-m, in one's absence, behind one's back; ra at baki e-m, behind him on the same horse; berr er hverr at baki nerna sr brur eigi, bare is one's back without a brother behind it; bak (a) behind; koma b. e-m, to attack in the rear; (b) after; b. jlum, after Christmas hvat sern b. kernr, whatever may come after or follow; (c) absol., falla b. aptr, to fall backwards; brjta b. or e-s, to refute, make them null and void; brjta b. Rmverja, to defeat them.
