Stolen Thunder by Shirley Climo, and Illustrated by Alexander Koshkin, and Iduna and the Magic Apples, by Marianna Mayer; Illustrated by Laszlo Gal
Review by Rinnandi

Family/Children's Books

Two books have recently been given to our family that are Norse Inspired Children's Stories. They are Stolen Thunder, by Shirley Climo, and Illustrated by Alexander Koshkin, and Iduna and the Magic Apples, by Marianna Mayer; Illustrated by Laszlo Gal. They are both excellent, with fabulous illustrations. Stolen Thunder is a retelling of the Thyrmskvida, and the artwork in this book is just as good as the story telling. The adolescent kids in our house really liked the book; could fully understand the story, and even the baby in the house loved to look at the pictures. It also tells a message about perseverance and helping friends, for the good of all the Kin.
Iduna and the Magic Apples is about battling evil, the wicked giant Thiassi; and about remembering who you are. It talks about not letting others convince you to do something you don't believe is right. It's a good story for slightly older kids, though the illustrations make it more accessible even to the younger children.
I did a check of Amazon.com to see if they are available, and while both books are out of print, they are readily available used or new from other sellers at the site. If you have children from 5-15 years old, these books are really great to have around, they both speak to the values that we as Asatrur hold in high esteem.
