7 April 2003
It was over two years ago that we began a project that has now come to completion: transcribing the complete Concise Dictionary of Old Icelandic into .html files. We at Northvegr would like to thank all those who worked on this project with us and who freely and generously donated there time to help us bring this text to the web. We also now have a search box for the dictionary which uses Google.com to search the dictionary for both English and Old Norse words. Again thanks to all who helped us bring this text to the net!

Cottle Translation of the Poetic Edda
23 January 2003
Now up in the Northern European Studies Texts section is the 1797 A. S. Cottle translation of the Poetic Edda. This translation represents the first English language translation of any major portion of the Poetic Edda to appear in print. It is a translation of the mythic lays and does not include the heroic lays. With this translation and a copy of the Hollander translation in hand, the reader can now chart just how far Eddic studies have come in the last 200 years.

New Maps Section

This section contains over 40 different maps dealing with various time periods of Northern Europe and related areas from the first centuries up to the Middle Ages. The Wayland-Dietrich Saga

Now up in the Northern European Studies Texts section is the full text of Volume One of the massive Nine Volume Wayland Dietrich Saga by Katherine M. Buck. This is Buck's translation and retelling of The Saga of Dietrich of Bern and His Companions, preceded by that of Wayland Smith. Volume one includes book one and two of the Song of Wayland. Look for more volumes from this work coming in the near future.

Roman Scandinavia Source Book

We now have a new section in the Northern European Studies called the Roman Scandinavia Source Book. This compilation of source literature was compiled by Eric Anctil. The purpose of this source book is to study the land of Scandinavia and its indigenous peoples from a classical and medieval perspective using a selection of Greek and Latin primary sources in English translation. Many thanks go to Eric whose dedication and hard work brings this valuable resource to the internet public.

This is an excellent collection of articles published in honor the centenary of the Brothers Grimm. Of special interest is the longest and final article dealing with Old Norse law terms.

Northvegr Foundation

On this day we have taken a new name and moved to a new home. The new web site will be much the same as far as layout and content but with a whole new look. The Northvegr Foundation will continue in the tradition started by MSR and continue to add more texts and resources that make us the best site on Northern Tradition on the net. In addition to that we are now pursuing the forming of a genuine tribal structure. Those interested in the details can learn more in the Northvegr Foundation section.

The Kalevala
28 March 2002
Now up in the Northern European Studies section we have the Finnish epic the Kalevala, which was written by Elias Lönnrot. Lönnrot, who was a doctor of medicine, collected various epic tales, lyrics, spells, laments and proverbs from around Finland and compiled them into what came to be known as Kalevala. The epic is arranged in sections called "Runes" and describes the mythical figures of the Finns.
