Chapter 34


King Halfdan's Dream

        Hálfdan konung dreymdi aldri; honum þótti þat undarligt, ok bar þat fyrir þann mann, er nefndr er Þorleifr hinn spaki, ok leitaði rápa, hvat at því mundi mega gøra. Þorleifr sagði, hvat hann gørði, ef hann forvitnaði at vita nökkurn hlut, at hann fœri í svínabœli at sofa, ok brásk honum þá eigi draumr. Ok konungr gørði þat, ok birtisk honum draumr þessi. Honum sýndisk, at hann væri allra manna bezt hærðr, ok var hár hans alt í lokkum, sumir síðir til jarðar, sumir i miðjan legg, sumir á kné, sumir í mjöðm, sumir á miðja síðu, sumir á háls, en sumir ekki meir en sprotnir upp ór hausi sem knýflar. En á lokkum hans var hvers kyns litr, en einn lokkr sigraði alla með ljósleik ok fegrð ok mikilleik. Þorleifi sagði hann þann draum, en hann þýddi svá, at mikill afspringr mundi af honum koma, ok mundi sá löndum ráða með miklum veg, ok þó eigi allir með jarnmiklum, en einn mundi sá af hans ætt koma, at öllum mundi meiri ok œðri. Ok hafa menn þat fyrir satt, at sá lokkr jartegndi Ólaf konung hinn helga. Hálfdan konungr var vitr maðr ok sannindamaðr ok jafnaðar, ok setti lög, ok hélt sjálfr ok lét aðra halda, svá at eigi mætti ofsi steypa lögunum. Hann gørði ok sjálfr saktal ok skipaði bótum hverjum eptir sínum burð ok metorðum. Ragnhildr dróttning ól son, var sá vatni ausinn ok nefndr Haraldr; hann var brátt mikill ok hinn fríðasti. Óx hann þar upp ok gørðist brátt íþróttamaðr mikill ok vel viti borinn. Móðir hans unni honum mikit, en faðir hans minna.
