Lítils síðar kømr Haraldr sjálfr á fund móður sinnar, ok segir henni þessi tíðendi, ok leitar ráða við hana; en hon réð honum þat ráð, at hann skyldi sjálfr fara á fund föður síns, ok segja honum þau tíðendi, at haukar tveir höfðu barzk, ok væri annarr alhvítr, en annarr grár, ok væri þó báðir gersimar, en svá lyki með þeim, at enn hvíti fengi bana, ok þótti þat skaði mikill. Ok nú eptir þetta gengr araldr í braut til liðs síns, ok vánu bráðara ferr hann til hallar föður síns, þar sem hann drakk inni með hirð sinni, ok var konungrinn undir borðum ok hirðin. Síðan gengr Haraldr inn fyrir föður sinn í höllina, ok segir honum síðan ífrá haukunum, svá sem móðir hans hafði honum ráð tilkennt, ok lauk svá málinu, at "nú er dauðr" segir hann, "enn hvíti haukrinn"; ok er hann hafði þat mælt, þá kvað hann ekki annat orð, ok fór þá enn á fund móður sinnar.
