Cock A Doodle Doo!

Cock a doodle doo!
Skidbladnir's lost its crew,
Vidofnir's on its figurehead
As Fenris starts to chew

Friyja's Boar

Friyja's boar came in with a saddle,
Skidbladnir's oars gave nary a paddle,
Kvasir's blood is in the ladle,
Saga's mead is on the table.
The whetstone throbs in poor Thor's forehead,
Sigyn catches poison most horrid.
Skuld sighs, at the Well of Urd,
Odin has whispered to Balder the word.

Gullveig, Gullveig

Gullveig, Gullveig,
Run away home,
Your skirt is on fire
And your wisdom all gone.
So war has come
And the land has bled
And the Vanir slew Mimir
And sent Odin his head.

Pussycat, Pussycat, Where Have You Been?

Pussycat, Pussycat, where have you been?
I've been to Asgard to see the queen.
Pussycat, Pussycat, what did you there?
I played with the amber strung in her hair.

Take a Quick Step to Sokvabek

Take a quick step to Sokvabek,
As Saga puts Odin into check (1);
Rings on her fingers and rings on her arms,
She lulls the All-Father with her charms.

The Northern Lights

Swift-footed Gerda runs through the sky,
Up clouds and down clouds in her swift stride.
Dancing in the heavens, the darkness all aglow,
When the children are in bed, it's time for her to go.

The Walls of Asgard

There was a fine mason who builded a wall;
He had a strong stallion, who helped him and all;
He raised up the walls of Asgard on high
And all that he asked for was a piece of the sky.

There Was an Old She-Wolf

There was an old she-wolf
Who lived in her pelt
Unless there's now a hunter
With her skin as a belt.

This is the World of Midgard

This is the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

This is the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

This the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

These are the gods (2)
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

These are the trees of the human race
Transformed by the gods
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

Sun and Moon that shine with grace
Upon the trees of the human race
Transformed by the gods
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

Skoll and Hati, the wolves, give chase
To Sun and Moon that shine with grace
Upon the trees of the human race
Transformed by the gods
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

The dwarfs have delved 'neath the mountain's face,
Skoll and Hati, the wolves, give chase
To Sun and Moon that shine with grace
Upon the trees of the human race
Transformed by the gods
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

The Rainbow Bridge joins place to place
The dwarfs have delved 'neath the mountain's face,
Skoll and Hati, the wolves, give chase
To Sun and Moon that shine with grace
Upon the trees of the human race
Transformed by the gods
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

Yggdrasill soars from leaf to base
The Rainbow Bridge joins place to place
The dwarfs have delved 'neath the mountain's face,
Skoll and Hati, the wolves, give chase
To Sun and Moon that shine with grace
Upon the trees of the human race
Transformed by the gods
That slew the jotun
That sucked at the cow
That licked the ice
That lies in the world of Midgard.

(1) As in playing chess. [Back]
