Who Were the Vikings?

        This little booklet of 32 pages is geared toward children but adults will get benefit from it as well. The illustrations bring to life many of the things that, for most, are only read about. Though short, it is packed with a lot of information on the Viking Age. It dispels many of the long standing myths such as the horned or winged helmets. Unfortunately it does perpetuate one stereotype that keeps me from giving it my highest recommendation. That is the stereotype of Thorr as a muscle-bound and witless oaf. If it where not for that one blunder, this book would have easily gotten my highest recommendation. Still, the wonderful illustrations and short but concise descriptions give a very good picture of what actual life was like in the Viking Age for our Northern European ancestors. Whether you are 6 years old or 60 years old, you'll find this little booklet useful and very informative.
