tíðkat at taka við þess háttar mönnum); refl., tíðkast, to be in use, be in vogue (sem nú tekr mjök at tíðkast); t. e-m, to become dear to; hann tíðkaðist Maríu, he courted M.
tíðkan, f. eagerness; e-m ert. á e-u, one is eager for.
tíð-látr, a. eager;
-leikr, m. (1) popularity (fá -leik ok metnað af verkum sínum); (2) pl. friendly intercourse; vera í -leikum við konu, to go a courting;
-liga, adv. eagerly, greedily;
-ligr, a. temporal, = stundligr.
tíðr (tíð, títt), a. (1) frequent, usual, customary (knattleikar voru þá tíðir); (2) often spoken of, noted, famous (a þeim tíðum var Á. biskup mjök t. ok ágætr); t. alþýðu, popular; (3) dear, beloved; í Gymisgörðum ek sá ganga mér tíða mey, a maid I love; þá sá Ölvir Solveigu ok gerði sér um títt, and courted her; þ. gerði sér títt við Björn, Th. courted B's friendship; (4) eager (þeim var títt heim at fara); nú er honum títt til síns matar, he is eager to get his food; hann kvað sér títt um ferðina, he said he was eager to go; (5) neut, sá þá, hvat títt var, what had happened; (6) títt, as adv. frequently, quickly (konungr hjó títt ok hart); sem tíðast, at once, with all speed (þeir reru í brott sem tíðast); aldri tíðara, never more (geng ek aldri tíðara þess erendis).
tíð-rœkinn, a. often attending service.
tíð-rœtt, pp. n., = -hjalat; þeim var -rœtt, they talked often together.
tíðska, f. custom,fashion (þat er t. at binda mönnum helskó),
tíðu-liga, adv. frequently, = tíðum.
tíðum (dat. pl. fróm 'tíðr'), adv. frequently, often (þeir leggja spjótum bæði hart ok t.); = títt.
tíðungr, m. a full-grown bull.
tíð-virkr, a. eager for work, industrious.
tí-faldr, a. tenfold (-föld tala).
tíma (-da, -t), v. (1) only with a negative, t. eigi,to be reluctant, grudge (hann tímdi eigi at gefa mönnum sínum mat); (2) e-n tímir e-t, it befalls one; (3) refl., tímast, to happen to one, befall one.
tíma-dagr, m. day of bliss;
-hald, n. chronology;
-land, n. land of good luck;
-lauss, a. luckless;
-leysi, n. lucklessness;
-liga, adv. timely, early;
-ligr, a. temporal;
-samliga, adv. successfully.
tími, m. (1) time; eptir tíma liðinn, after a little time; í þann tíma, at that time; fyrstan tíma, er ek var hér, the first time that I was here; (2) time, fit time (þeim þótti t. til at ganga á fund konungs); á hœfiligum tíma, in due time; í tíma, betimes; (3) good luck, prosperity (gangi þér allt til tírs ok tíma).
tína (-da, -dr), v. (1) to pick (hann tíndi upp gullit); (2) to cleanse (t. korn); (3) fig. to recount, narrate (engi tunga má t., hversu mikit gott konungrinn veitti sínum mönnum); (4) reft., tínast, to go one by one (bað jarl sína menn t. undan).
tírar-för, f. glorious journey;
-hönd, f., in the phrase, taka -hendi á e-m, to treat one with distinction.
tírr (gen. tírs and tírar), m. glory, renown (góðs höfum tírar fengit).
tí-rœðr, a. (1) decimal, opp. to ' tólfrœðr'; tvau hundruð -rœð,=200; (2) a hundred years old (honum ólst sonr, þá er hann var -rœðr); (3) measuring a hundred fathoms (eld-húsit var -rætt at lengd).
títt, adv., see ' tíðr'.
tíu, card. numb, ten; tíu tigir, a hundred.
tíund, f. (1) the tenth part; (2) tithe.
tíunda (), v. (1) to pay tithes; (2) to give a tithe of (t. fé sitt); (3) to levy a tithe on.
tíunda-mál, n. a suit referring to tithes.
tíundar-fé, n. tithe-money;
-gjald, n. payment of a tithe;
-gørð, f. tithe-fixing, setting the tithe;
-hald, n. holding back the tithe;
-heimta, f. claiming the tithe;
-mál, n. = tíunda-mál;
-vara, f. tithe goods.
tíundi, ord. numb, the tenth.
tívar, m. pl. gods.
tívorr, m. god (poet.).
tízka, f. custom, = tíðska.
tjald, n. (1) tent, on land or on ships,
