Midgard's Web -
Midgard's Web was founded in 1999, by a group of friends seeking to foster contact within the Northern world, and to support all those with an interest in the Northern ancestral faiths. It's goals are to foster a webwork of contacts for Northfolk and other folk and to establish an Allthing where all Northfolk can come to settle their disputes.

Primitive Archer -

Gimle - Gimle is an informal network or a community between individuals as well as "blotlag" for followers of the old Nordic way in the Scandinavian countries. It is not formally connected to any particular organization such as Sverige Asatrosamfund or Samfälligheten för Nordisk sed in Sweden or Forn Sidr in Denmark or Foreningen Forn Sed in Norway. Its free for everyone or every blotlag to join with a serious interest in forn sed (the nordic way). (Swedish Language)

Rune-Net - An international network for students of the Runes. The organizer of Rune-Net, Sweyn and other members offer materials and books (See our reviews of Sweyn's books, True Helm and the Rune-Net Runic Primer in the Northern Star Reviews) that stand out from other organizations and books in that they offer materials solidly based in the lore and culture of Northern Europe; free of modern occult and New Age practices that seem to plague other organizations and "popular" books on runes.

Hurstwic - Hurstwic was a living history society in New England founded to study and to accurately re-create the life of the people living in northern Europe during the Viking Age. Hurstwic has been disbanded. However, some of the individuals involved in Hurstwic continue their study of life as it was lived a thousand years ago in Norse lands and continue Hurstwic's original mission: to accurately re-create history as we know it and to learn about the Viking era through "hands-on" experiences.

Expedition Vittefarne - We in the Vittfarne association intend to test the possible route of Ingvar the Far-travelled through Transcaucasia with a Viking ship replica suitable for the purpose. The aim is historical research as well as creating international contacts between people. This expedition can be seen as a continuation of the earlier expedition with the Viking boat Aifur 1994 and 1996. The "Aifur expedition" started in Sigtuna in Sweden and made its way to the mouth of the Dnepr through the river system of the former Soviet Union.

Tjatsi - Norse folklore and mythology related to stamps issued from the Faroese post office.

Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts - The mission of AEMMA is to resurrect the combat skills, philosophies and principles of an accomplished European Medieval martial artist and to achieve a state of which would be consistent with that of a medieval warrior in both technology and ideal.

Eddan: The Invincible Sword of the Elv Smith: Composer Mats Wendt's work in progress, the giant 158 part suite, Eddan. Now 8 hours of the suite that Wendt has completed is available via streaming media. Check out the full review in NESP Book Reviews.

Northside: Extraordinary Nordic Roots Music - An excellent music label. Northside is dedicated "to the most exciting music movement on the planet. Scores of young musicians from Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sámiland are taking the music and instruments of their ancestors and bringing new ideas, arrangements, influences and instrumentation to an often lost art." I (Alfta Óðinssen) have purchased three CD's from this label so far and they are all fabulous. I'll be buying more. I highly recommend them.

Scholarship

This website is the homepage of a newly-established project which will produce an English dictionary of the vocabulary of inscriptions in the younger futhark.

An English Dictionary of Runic Inscriptions in the Younger Futhark - This work of reference (from the University of Nottingham) will provide both a basic introduction to the language of the runic inscriptions and a foundation for the further study of its lexicon. The aim is to make the rich resources of Viking Age and medieval Scandinavian runic inscriptions more accessible to a variety of end-users.

The Viking Answer Lady - If you want to learn about what life was really like for the Vikings, then this is the site to visit. A great site that covers the major aspects of Viking history and culture. Find out what an ear spoon is, what the Vikings ate for dinner, how they dressed and much much more. Highly recommended.

Indo-European Language Resources - A site maintained by Sean Crist with dictionaries of many Indo-European Languages including Gothic, Old High German, Old Icelandic, Old Saxon, Old Irish and more.

Netútgáfan - Various material from the Sagas and Eddas in Normalized Icelandic, including Fornaldarsögur Norðurlanda, Gylfaginning, Heimskringla, Landnámabók and more.

Foreningen Forn Sed - Many texts in Old Norse including the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda

The Viking Society for Northern Research - The Society was founded to promote interest in the Scandinavian North, its literature and antiquities.

Saganet - This is an absolutely amazing site that has graphic reproductions of the manuscripts of the lore of the Northern Way that is boggles the mind. If it has anything to do with the Northern Way, more than likely you will be able to find reproductions of the original manuscripts page by page.

Saganet (Mirror Site) - The National and University Library of Iceland and Cornell University with the association of the Árni Magnússon Institute in Iceland have started a cooperative project of large scale digitalization of about 250,000 manuscript pages and 150,000 printed pages. The material will consist of the entire range of Icelandic family sagas. It will also include a very large portion of Germanic/Nordic mythology (the Eddas), the history of Norwegian kings, contemporary sagas and tales from the European age of chivalry. A great number of manuscripts contain Icelandic ballads, poetry or epigrams. These Collections are kept in The National and University Library of Iceland, The Árni Magnússon Institute in Iceland and in the Fiske Icelandic Collection at Cornell University. All manuscripts, on vellum and paper, and printed editions and translations of the Sagas as well as relevant critical studies published before 1900 will be included and available through the Internet.

Wirral and South West Lancashire 1100th Viking Anniversary Home Page - A Web page dealing with research and history concerning the Viking heritage of Wirral. A large amount of links to articles, books, etc. relating to the Viking heritage of Wirral. Also included is a fascinating article on genetic research concerning the population of modern day Wirral. Highly recommended.

Sagas and Eddas Links Page - A huge collection of links to Sagas, Eddas and other Lore, mostly in Icelandic.

D. L. Ashliman's University of Pittsburgh Folklore and Mythology Site - More Germanic lore and folklore than you can shake a stick at. Folklore from various other cultures is included as well.

The Viking Network - The Viking Network is a project which aims to answer the following question: How do we combine the teaching of the Vikings and the Viking era with electronic communications?

Runstone Inscriptions - A massive collection of Runestone Inscriptions.

Old Norse For Beginners - This is a free online course for beginning students of Old Norse done by Haukur Þorgeirsson and Óskar Guðlaugsson. It is far from completed but it should be useful for those who are just starting to learn the language. If you are using the material you are encouraged to join the mailing list for discussion, help and information on updates.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation - Founded in 1910 by Danish-American industrialist Niels Poulsen, the ASF is a publicly supported, nonprofit organization that carries on an extensive program of fellowships, grants, trainee placement, publishing, membership offerings, and cultural activities.
