        Ívarr játtar at fara með honum. Heðinn varð glaðr við þat, ok mælti: "Þess skaltu varask at ganga eigi framan at Högna, ok þess annars, at drepa mik eigi fyrr enn Högna, sakir þess, at þat er einkis mensks manns, at ganga framan at Högna, eðr drepa hann, ef ek em áðr dauðr, þvíat hann hefir œgishjálm í augum, ok hlífir engu vætta, ok því er þat eina til, at ek gangi at honum framan, ok berjumk ek við hann, enn þú gangir at baki honum, ok veitir honum banatilræði, þvíat þér man lítit fyrir verða, at bana mér, þá er ek lifi vár allra lengst." Síðan ganga þeir til bardaga, ok sér Ívarr, at þetta er alt satt, sem Heðinn hafði sagt honum; gengr hann at baki Högna, ok höggr í höfuð honum, ok klýfr hann í herðar niðr; fellr Högni þá dauðr, ok stóð aldri upp síðan. Síðan drap hann þar þá menn alla, er at bardaganum vóru, enn síðast Heðinn, ok varð honum lítit fyrir því. Síðan gekk hann til skipa, ok var þá lýst af degi; hann fór til konungs, ok sagði honum. Konungr lét vel yfir verki hans, ok sagði honum giptulega tekizk hafa. Eftir um daginn gengu þeir á land, ok þar til, sem bardaginn hafði verit, ok sá þar engan stað þeirra tíðenda, er þar hofðu verit, enn blóð sásk á sverði Ívars til merkja, ok aldri hurfu þar varðhaldsmenn síðan.
