-orð, n. a line of a strophe.
vís-vitaðr, pp. known for certain.
víta (-tta, -ttr), v. to fine, sconce (víttr ertu nú skáld, er þú kemr eigi undir borð).
víta-verðr, a. worthy of punishment or fine.
víti, n. (1) punishment; skapa e-m. v. fyrir e-t, to punish one for a thing; fá, taka v., to suffer punishment (Þorgils segir, at hún skal v. fyrir taka); láta sér annars v. at varnaði, to be warned by another's woe; (2) fine, mulct,=févíti (gjalda v.); (3) sconce,= borðvíti; en er kom. at jólum, vóru v. upp sögð, but when Yule came the sconces were declared.

-lauss, a. without punishment, blameless;
-leysi, n. impunity.

voldugr, a. powerful,= völdugr.
væða, (-dda, -ddr), v. to clothe.
vægð (pl. -ir), f. mercy, forbearance (eiga øngrar vægðar ván).
vægtar-lauss, a. merciless, exacting;
-laust, adv. without mercy.
vægi, n. weight, moment; vera lítils vægis, to be of small moment.
vægi-liga, adv. forbearingly, leniently;
-ligr, a. forbearing, lenient (-ligr dómr).
væginn. a. lenient, yielding.
vægja (-ða, -t), v. (1) to give way to, with dat.; v. göngunni, to yield the road, when two meet one another; (2) absol., to give way, yield (jafnan vægir hinn vitrari); v. fyrir e-m, to give way to one (hón kvaðst aldri v. skyldu fyrir Hallgerði); v. eptir e-m, v. við e-n, to yield to one; (3) to temper, with dat. (v. reiði sinni); v. dómum, to temper judgement; v. orða atkvæðum, to forbear from words: (4) to spare, with dat. (Þorkell bað jarl v. bóndum); (5) refl., vægjast, to yield, give way (betra er at v. tit góðs en bægjast til ills); v. til við e-n, to give way to one.
vægja (-ði, -t), v. impers. to emit matter (vágr), suppurate (hendr hans hafði vægt ok fœtr).
væg-leiðinn, a. = væginn (við e-n).
vægr, a. nicely balanced, of scales (vægar skálir).
væl, n. wailing.
vælan, f. wailing.
væla (að), v. to wail.
væna (-da, -dr), v. (1) to give one hope of, v. e-m e-s or e-u (v. e-m miskunnar ok eilífrar dýrðar); (2) to ween, think kveld væni ek, at ek heiti Úfeigr); impers., e-n vænir, at, one thinks that (vænir mik nú, at þeir hafi aptr snúit); (3) v. e-n e-u, to charge one with a thing (v. e-n lygi); (4) refl., vænast e-s or e-u, to hope for (vænist hann ok øngra manna liðveizlu); v. e-u, to boast of.
vænd (pl. -ir), f. prospect, expectation (er í þær vændir komit, at).
vændis-fólk, n. wicked people;
-höfðingi, m. wicked, bad chief;
-kona, f. harlot;
-maðr, m. miscreant.
væng-brotinn, pp. broken-winged.
vængi, m. cabin on board a ship.
vængjaðr, a. furnished with wings.
væng-knúi, m. the wing joint.
vængr (-jar, -ir), m. (1) wing (með vænjunum huldi hann landit allt) (2) wing of a budding', esp. of a church.
væni, n. prospect; þótti öllum mikils ills af v., every one thought that much evil might be looked for.
væning (pl. -ar), f. imputation.
vænkast (að), v. to bid fair, look well ,take a good turn (þykkir þeim v. um sinn hag).
væn-leikr, m. bodily beauty (þá var þeim eintalat um. Helgu, ok lofaði hann mjök -leik hennar).
