The Scribe's Gild
Welcome to the Scribes Gild.
The purpose of this gild is to transcribe and put out books that are in the
public domain to the web. The books we wish to concentrate on are those which
deal with Norse studies in all its forms, Western and Eastern Occultism, and
anything which deals with Indo-European cultures. As a group we will be able
to put out a great deal of material for usage by the folk. I look forward to
working with any individual who wishes to assist in this task. The path of the
transcriber though, I should tell, is a thankless task. There are long hours
of work and little support. I wish to change that. I have a handful of public
domain books under my belt and I understand the work that goes into it. I am
and will be fully supportive of all efforts made to this cause. The only thing

The following are a few of the goals we have at the gild for transcription. Many of these books can be obtained through interlibrary loan, so you don't actually have to purchase the books to be able to transcribe them. This is especially helpful with some of the more rare and out of print books. If you have a books listed below or are able to obtain it through interlibrary loan or you have a book not listed below on a Northern European Studies subject of some kind feel free to contact us at the address listed above or at info@northvegr.org .

If you have access to any of these books and would like to help us make them available to the internet viewing public please do contact us! In addition if you would like to transcribe from .TIFF or .GIF graphic files, we have several books waiting to be typed up and can send you the text files from which you can transcribe. We are also looking for people who can help us convert texts into PDF files which we will offer free at our site. Gild Membership Guidelines
1. You should transcribe at least 2 books in a years time. This time starts as soon as you join the Scribe's Gild.2. When you have chosen the book which you want to transcribe contact me and tell me the book, author, and pertinent information in the book as well as sending me a table of contents of the book. I will then let you know whether this book is currently being done by another or has already been done.
3. The book must be in the public domain. Those books which were published 1924 and back are considered in the public domain. In some cases books published up until 1963 may be in the public domain. If you have a book published between 1924 and 1963 and are not sure if it is in the public domain, contact us and we will find out if it is.
4. I request that the books be done in .RTF format and in the Georgia font. The .RTF format is standard across most platforms and is easiest for us to work with and transform into .HTML documents. The Georgia font can be downloaded here.
5. When you finish a chapter you will send it to me and I will store it until the book is complete. This lets me know how you are progressing in your work.
As you can see this is a simple list of guidelines. The reason I request that two books a year be done is because this is an aggressive gild which is trying very hard to bring information to the folk. I do not slack and I do not want slackers working with me. If you can not meet these obligations then I would request one not to apply but I believe them reasonable, I can do it so can you.
Credits
Any work done by you will be accredited to you. There is no stealing of anothers limelight. I believe credit is due where it is due and if you work hard at this then the credit is yours. When the work is completed I will then take the chapters and put them into html and then put them onto the website. When a work is completed it may be advertised to mailing lists and newsgroups so as to get the word out. Although, like I said earlier, this is a thankless job. I am always happy to get responses thanking me for the work done. It makes it the job worth it as you will see too.As said before I look forward to working with all who come. We can make a difference by working as a group.
