Insert the floppy disk into drive A or B. 2. If running WINDOWS 3.1: From Program Manager, choose File > Run. If running WINDOWS 95: Click Start and choose Run. 3. Type A:\INSTALL.EXE (or B:\INSTALL.EXE) and click OK. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. To start Picture Disk, double-click the Picture Disk icon in the KODAK program group. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS General ------- KODAK Picture Disk Software requires a minimum of 256 colors to display your pictures. For the best results, set your display for more than 256 colors. (The way you set this depends on your hardware configuration; for instructions, refer to your WINDOWS system documentation or to the manual that came with your video display driver.) Reinstalling Picture Disk Software overwrites the existing version of the software without warning but preserves your existing Images Folder (called the "drawer" in previous versions) and albums. If you are upgrading from the 1.0 Version of Kodak Picture Disk when you run Picture Disk Software V1.2.1 for the first time, any pictures in the Images Folder on the hard disk are converted to a new space-saving format. The amount of time the conversion takes depends on the number of pictures you have in the Images Folder. If you are running WINDOWS 3.1 and you remove the floppy disk while it is being read, a distorted thumbnail may be created. Reread the Picture Disk floppy disk before saving this thumbnail to the Images Folder; if you do not, the distorted thumbnail will be saved. If you are running WINDOWS 95 and you remove the diskette while it is being read, the application window may not be redrawn correctly after the error message appears. To correct the display, simply minimize and then restore the application window. 32 bit PCT files may not be displayed correctly. On a 4 MB system, extended use of Picture Disk Software may lead to unpredicatable results. To recover, you must restart WINDOWS and Picture Disk Software. Performance ----------- Using very large JPG files may result in slower performance during Import, Edit, Print Preview, Print Picture, and Slideshow displays. The performance of the application degrades when you open and close the Edit window if the number of pictures in the Images Folder becomes very large. Video Display ------------- When the video driver is configured for 256 colors, pictures that are copied to and pasted from the Clipboard may not display all of the colors that were displayed in the original picture. When the video driver is configured for 256 colors, a picture that is copied to the Clipboard and then pasted into ADOBE PHOTOSHOP will have a resolution of only 3.811 pixels. To correct this, choose File > New and change the resolution to 150 in the dialog box before pasting the picture in the new window. When the video driver is configured for 256 colors, some pictures may not display correctly in the Print Preview window. When the video driver is configured for Large Fonts, the Edit window and the Print Preview window do not fit completely in the default window size. You must maximize the window to see the entire window. When running WINDOWS 95 with your video display configured for 640 x 480, you will not be able to see the Picture Disk Software status line. If you maximize and then restore your window, the status line will become visible. When you are using a Number Nine 9FX Motion 771 video card and you attempt to zoom in on a print preview of a 5 x 7 picture, Picture Disk Software may halt. If you do not zoom in, Print Preview will work correctly. To correct the problem use video driver Version 2.24 or later. Several problems may occur with print preview when using the Number Nine 9FX Motion 771 video card. Some of these problems are corrected by using driver Version 2.24 or later. All pictures will be printed correctly even though the preview is incorrect. Printing -------- When running WINDOWS 95 and using an HP DeskJet printer, using the TAB key in Options from the Print Setup dialog box may cause the software to halt. Options work correctly when you select them with the mouse. When you print to the HP DeskJet 660C printer, selecting Print Thumbnails may result in some titles printing incorrectly. To improve performance and conserve disk space when printing, turn off the WINDOWS Print Manager through the Printers icon in the WINDOWS Control Panel. Some 8 x 10 pictures may be cropped without warning, depending on the printer you are using. Horizontal and vertical centering may not work correctly, depending on the printer you use and the paper orientation. Trying to cancel Print Thumbnails while the printer is preparing to print the thumbnails causes the system to appear to be frozen for as much as a minute or more, depending on the number of thumbnails being prepared. The frozen appearance is most likely to occur during printing of thumbnails from the Picture Disk floppy disk or a Photo CD disc, but it can also occur during printing of thumbnails from the Images Folder. If you run out of disk space while attempting to print, your printout will not appear, and you will not get any error message. When you print to the CANON BJC-600 printer, the Copies option in the Print dialog box is not available. On a 4 MB system, Picture Disk Software may halt if you attempt to print thumbnails to an Epson Stylus Color ESC/P2 printer with an Epson printer driver earlier than Version 2.10. To correct the problem, use Version 2.10AE or later of the Epson printer driver. Version 2.10 of the Epson Stylus Color Print Driver may result in some picture sizes being displayed incorrectly in Print Preview. To correct this problem use Version 2.1AE or greater.
